Scope and Contents: This collection is comprised of audio recordings of musical performances and narrative made by Jean Ritchie during her time as a Fulbright scholar in the British Isles from 1952 to 1953. These recordings are a portion of her collecting in Ireland and Scotland. None from her work in England are included.
Irish performers include Con O'Shea, Lilly Moore, Sarah Makem, Maggie Hughes, F. Keating, John Hoare, Michael Cronin, Micheal Reagh, Sean O'Tuama, Elizabeth Cronin, and Seamis Ennis. Instrumentation includes Irish pipes, fiddle, and guitar. Scottish songs and ballads are sung by Jimmy McBeath, Elizabeth White, Jeannie Robertson, Blin Robbin, Isaac Higgins, and others.
