The collection is organized in series as follows:
Series 1: General and Administrative (n.d.; 1967-2001) - Includes reports, correspondence, and programming materials. Includes materials related to community and continuing education, Berea Forum, event and conference planning, Appalachian Ministries Educational Resource Center (AMERC), and the Whitney Young Scholars program. 2 ms boxes
Series 2: Project Lift/LEAP (1990-2003) - documents and records related to the Lift Educational Aspirations Program (based in Rockcastle County, KY) including reports, updates, correspondence, school-to-work programming, and workshop and conference materials. 1 ms box
Series 3: Elderhostel (1980-2003) - documents and records related to Berea College sponsored Elderhostel educational programs and courses. Records include calendars, course descriptions, participant materials and surveys, administrative and planning documents, and correspondence. 1 ms box
Series 4: Black Mountain Youth Leadership Program (BMYLP) (1991-1994) - records of the BMYLP include organizational materials, meeting minutes, advisory documents, programming materials, correspondence, annual and site reports, seminar and workshop materials, and materials documenting the Carter G. Woodson Institute. 1 ms box
Abstract
The Berea College Office of Special Programs planned, administered, and coordinated continuing education,conference events, and other educational programs for the Berea and surrounding communities.
While the Office of Special Programs no longer exists, many of its programs and services are currently administered through such offices or departments as Partners for Education and Conference Services.
