Starting in 1987, the Science Focus Program at Berea College enabled the College both to identify African American high school sophomores with ability in science and/or mathematics and to instruct and guide them in their preparation to enter college in science related fields.  Program participants spent four weeks on campus in an intensive educational experience and working in the College's labor program.

The program appears to have run through 1999.
