Arrangement
The collection is arranged in six series:
Series 1: Correspondence - This series consists of correspondence between Berea College President William Frost and feud researchers, 1900 to 1903.
Series 2: Manuscript Accounts of Feuds - This series consists of typed or handwritten accounts of specific feuds: Callahan-Deaton, Hatfield-McCoy, Baker-White, Phipps-McNeil, Tolliver-Martin-Logan, Turner-Sowder.
Series 3: Clippings and Articles - This series consists of feud related newspaper clippings and magazine articles organized by family feud name. See also Series VI for oversized clippings.
Series 4: Students and Crime - This series consists of a 1936 publication entitled Breathitt County High School Students Give Their Thoughts About the Local Crime Situation, written by the Breathitt County, Kentucky school superintendent.
Series 5: Photographs - This series consists of one unidentified photograph and one set of published photographs relating to certain feuding family members.
Series 6: Oversize News Clippings - This series consists of oversized feud related news clippings. Also see Series 3.
Abstract
Material in the collection was compiled over several years by Hutchins Library staff in response to the historical, cultural, and popular interest that feud activity has engendered, especially in Kentucky.
