Abstract

Neil Di Teresa received his Bachelor’s Degree from the Pratt Institute in New York and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico. He was professor of art at Berea College from 1962 to 2010.  Di Teresa was also a visiting senior professor at Darwin College, University of Kent, Canterbury, England, and a guest professor at the University of Notre Dame.

Di Teresa’s work can be found in numerous museum and corporate collections including Phillip Morris, KY; Ashland Oil, TX; The Charleston Museum of Art, WV; the Owensboro Museum of Art, KY; and The Management Group, NM.  While primarily a painter, Di Teresa has also worked in woodcuts, cast paper, puppetry, and drawing.  While at Berea College, Di Teresa also served as the director of the Summer Puppetry Caravan for Appalachia.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

This is a photographic collection of Neil Di Teresa, professor of art at Berea College from 1962 to 2010. Photographs in the collection are in the format of slides, shot in 1973.  The subjects of his photographs include Appalachia, Appalachians, Appalachian crafts and arts, and artisans.
