Collection Overview
Abstract
G. Gilbert Roberts, a 1930 graduate of Berea College, was on Berea's faculty for 46 years, retiring in 1976. Roberts was a mathematics professor and served as department chairman. He also taught astronomy, and upon retirement, the college observatory was named in his honor. In 1965 Roberts received the Seabury Award for Excellence in Teaching, the college's highest faculty recognition. Roberts also served as Visiting Professor of Mathematics at Morehead State University and Appalachian State University, and taught Celestial Navigation for the Navy V-12 unit at Berea during World War II.
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Roberts papers are comprised of "a collection of fifty songs specially arranged for the Berea College Chimes," assembled by G. Gilbert Roberts in 1972, 1977.
